Author Talk- Stories from Ukraine

Author Talk- Stories from Ukraine In-Person

Larissa Babij returns to the South Windsor Library to discuss her recent book A Kind of Refugee: The Story of an American Who Refused to Leave Ukraine and to talk about the difference between writing for yourself and writing from personal experience for a public audience. She will be joined by Anne Howard, whose new book, Escape from Mariupol: A Survivor's True Story, narrates the experiences of a young Ukrainian woman who fled the Russian bombardment and occupation of her home city in 2022.

Larissa writes a blog called A Kind of Refugee where she reflects on Russia's war in Ukraine through the lens of her own upbringing in the US post-WWII Ukrainian diaspora and offers glimpses into life in a country—and world—under attack. Her book is being published in April of 2024 and available to order here: Columbia University Press

To learn more about Anne's book and to order it, see: Escape from Mariupol

Donations happily accepted to support Hero of Ukraine a charitable organization that helps Ukraine's defenders as well as civilians in the southern Mykolaiv region.
